The syndicate have decided to keep Rue St Denis in the more than capable hands of Paul Nicholls. The fourteen times champion trainer with over 3,600 winners to his name making him one of the best trainers of all the time.
Paul started off life as a conditional jockey back in 1982 under Josh Gifford before joining David Baron in 1985. Paul’s career in the saddle was cut short in 1989 when he suffered a broken leg after an incident with a horse. After 119 winners it was time to turn his attention to training. It was in 1991 when he got his big break. Paul Barber had a dozen candidates apply for the opportunity to train at his Ditcheat base. This was the start of a great friendship and relationship between the two, Paul was selected to train on the grounds of Paul Barber and it was the beginning of something great.
Manor Farm stables boasts state of the art facilities, It has an eight horse covered walker, two all weather gallops, a deep sand gallop and stabling for over 100 horses. He also has another stable close by which has a capacity of around 60.
Team Ditcheat is not just a one man operation, it’s a massive team effort. Paul is aided by assistant trainer Charlie Davies and the vastly experienced head lad Clifford Baker. They head up the 45 staff based at Manor farm stables. Everyone plays a vital role in the training and care of the horses on a daily basis.
Paul has enjoyed an unbelievable amount of success over the years, he’s trained some of the most recognisable names in recent history, Denman, Kauto Star, Master Minded, Dodging Bullets, Silviniaco Conti, Twist Magic, Greaneteen, Flagship Uberalles, See More Business to name just a small number of his grade one winners. Away from the big race successes, Taunton and Wincanton have become a happy hunting ground for Paul and his team. He’s great at campaigning a horse and knows exactly what it takes to win the big races
